2006-07 Rookie of the Year Race Carries on!

Back in the 2006-2007 season, an unbelivable thing happened. 2 stars broke into the NHL sat the same time. Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby were both rookies reaching outstanding feets. Now the two seem to be picking up the race once again.
Last time, Alexander Ovechkin won by claiming the Rookie of the Year Trophie over Sidney Crosby. It seems as if old traits are being done again. Although Crosby is beating Ovechkin in points, 89 to 90, Crosby has just 27 goals. Ovechkin leads the league with 49. This kid just has a scoring talent.
Vote on the poll, who will come out on top, Crosby or Ovechkin? Make sure to leave your opinion in the poll.

Detroit VS. San Jose

Detroit vs. San Jose, who will be the top team in the western confrence? Having played 70 games and having 101 points, the Detroit Red Wings have their chances. Right behind them, with 100 points, is the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks have played only 68 games, meaning they could have 104 points. Detroit and San Jose will be racing neck and neck for top team in the Western Confrence, and most likely top team in the league.

Western Playoff Race

A race in the Western Confrence heats up even more as the season end draws closer. This race takes place with a 7 point difference. At the bottom of the race is the Los Angles Kings, with 65 points and in 13th place. Alos near the bottom, the St. Louis Blues are in 12th with 66 points. These two teams along with the Minnesota Wild n 11th place and 67 points seem to be falling behind. As the playoff race begins to spread out a bit these teams are unhappily the teams who are falling behind. With some clubs falling behind and others ahead, only 1 team is stuck in the middle. The Anaheim Ducks have 68 points and are in 10th place. Now, where the race really brews is starting at 9th place, where 3 teams sit tied at 70 points. The Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars, and Edmonton Oilers are all trying to get ahead of one another. Just two points ahead is the Columbus Blue Jackets. Each team knows they have to get 6th place, the only possible place where they won't face San Jose or Detroit. The World of Hockey99 will keep you updated on this Western Confrence Playoff race.

By far the majourity of the fans voted Martin Brodeur when funnily, Brodeur isn't playing. 44-goal-scorer Alexander Ovechkin recieved just 2 out of 23 votes. I find these results funny. Leave a comment on your opinion.

Tampa Bay Bankrupt?

The one thing Tampa Bay has always had is offence, but now they're losing it. It strated with the lose of Prospal and Brad Richards and now it looks as if Martin St.Louis may be the next to go. The most obvious explanation for this is bankrupcy, and with the recession on, it makes sense. Tampa Bay may be the first of many to have financial problems in the NHL.

NHL Trade Rumors

Randy Jones may be going to the Columbus Blue Jackets. There is also a rumor that Scott Gomez of New York is going to Vancouver. However this seems unlikely. The rumor that Atlanta will trade Ilya Kovalchuk seems unlikely. Atlanta GM Don Waddell denies it. The wild have failed to trade Marion Gaborik since of his injuries. Rumor, he would like to play in L.A. Rumor is defenseman Marek Zidlicky, Marc-Andre Bergeron, and Kim Jonsson are available but this is yet to be confirmed. The Senators are also making changes as it is said Cory Murphy will be joining them. it is said the Panthers are getting Nathan Horton, a youngster with a bright future. It seems that Tampa Bay is asking Martin St.Louis to rid of his no-trade claus. Since the Blsckhawks failed to get Sundin, it seems more likely Havlat will stay. Ill have more trade rumors soon!

Zetterbeg's Zcoring

Henrik Zetterbeg scored his 13th goal not long ago, he was last year's MVP and was amazing against Pittsburg in the Stanley Cup finals. He is consistant and is unbelievable at scoring. For defense not so good. Leave your comment on Zetterbeg here.

Malkin for Art Ross?

Should Evengi Malkin of the Pittsburg Penguins get the Art Ross? Malkin has amazing skill and fast skating. Here is another great unnoticed hockey player. Dustin Penner did terrible for the first bit of the season, but after a Oilers coach Craig MacTavish benched him for 2 games, he's been on fire ever since. He has 7 goals and has a talent for scoring, assisting, tipping, and screening the goaie.

Come Back MacIntyre!

The Edmonton Oilers are desperate for MacIntyre's toughness, but they aren't completely helpless. They are on a 3 game winning streak. Do the Oilers really need a tough guy? It certainly sparked a lot of hope in Edmonton. I think it'd be good if he was back.

Goaltending Problems in Detroit

Detroit has been forced to rely on Ty Conklin for goalie. Detroit has spent all their money focused on offense and defense. The goaltending is something that will have to be fixed if they want the cup. But their record is good, 19-4-4, will they cope with it?

Sharks 9 Game Winning Streak Snapped

Sharks 9 game streak snapped by overtime lose to Oilers 3-2. The San Jose Sharks were on a 9 game winning streak until they met Dwayne Roloson. Roloson is one of 2 star goalies for Edmonton. 79% of people thought Mathieu Garon, the other goalie who had goalied them to a 5-4 shoout win last game, should get to play the game. The Sharks outshot the Oilers 43-16, but (my god!) Roloson stopped 41 shots, many of them being breakaways and consectutive rebound shots. After making a tough save, Roloson was hauled over by the Oilers very own Rob Shremp. Roloson dropped his stick in the mess and got up to jump down again to make a save. He made the save without letting a rebound. That was one of 2 saves Roloson made without a stick. Roloson also made a save while his helmet had been knocked off. Roloson recieved first star that game. Ales Hemsky scored his 9th and Dustin Penner his 7th. Dustin Penner deflected Sheldon Souray's shot. Kyle Brodziak scored an awkward goal to end the game in favor of the Oilers in overtime. Brodziak's 5th goal wasn't actually an attempt to score. Brodziak was passed the puck in front of the net and tried to pass it to the other side when it deflected off Ehrhoff's stick and into the net. Dwayne Roloson later was interviewed, answering the question "Do you like lots of shots?". Roloson answered "Yeah, I mean, it keeps me on my toes.".

Malkin VS. Crosby

Evengi Malkin is doing great this year for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Will the Penguins be going for round 2 of the Stanley Cup? Maybe, but if they do, Malkin will have a big part in it. He leads the league in points with 35 and a +8 plus/minues record. Sidney Crosby is 7 points behind in 6th. Malkin is 21st best in the league for goals and Crosby 41st. Crosby holds a +7 while Malkin holds a +8 record. It seems that Malkin beats Crosby in all sections. On the 'most assists' list, Malkin holds first place while Crosby holds 3rd. Do you have an arguement to place? Leave a comment with some proof why you think Crosby or Malkin is better than the other.

Good Luck Charm

Dusting Penner may be disappointing the coach for not scoring he's got the best Oilers best plus/minus and he's 39th best in the league. Is it Penner or is it who he's with? A question that will be answered in time! Dfense is everything to the Oilers as Sheldon souray leads the Oilers in goals with 7. He lies 63rd best in the league and has a killer slap shot!

Souray's Scoring

Sheldon Souray has reached 7 goals and 15 points as a defenceman. Only Shea Weber of Nashville has managed more points as a defenceman. He is 60th on the 'most points' list. Ales Hemsky is in 14th.

BAD REFFING TO THE OILERS EXPENSE

The Edmonton Oilers went into the last minute of regulation play winning 2-1. The Oilers goalie, Dwayne Roloson, was angry at the referee for not calling Colorado Avalanche's Ryan Smyth for High Sticking or Goalie Interference. The Oilers were scored on with 25 seconds left. Not only did the refs not call Smyth but 2 thin penalties were called against the Oilers before going into the last minute of play. The Colorado Avalalnche were offside going into the Oilers zone but got away with it. And all of that resulted in a goal which took the game to a shootout where Edmonton lost.

Sanjose Shark's

The San jose Sharks have managed a record of 14-3-1 with 18 games played and 29 points managed. A mixture of good goaltending and excellent scoring has got them to top in the confrence and league. Trailing them is the New York Ranger's at 26 points. Bottom of the league is the St. Louis Blues. The St. Louis Blues have managed just 11 points in their 5-8-1 record. to be in the playoffs currently, you need at least 18 points. The Edmonton Oilers currently hold 8th place and have a 8-7-1 record with 17 points. The Oilers lost to the toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 last night. The Maple Leafs hold 8th in the Eastern Confrence.

Souray's 5th

Sheldon Souray has just scored his 5th goal. This will be his 2nd game in a row that Sheldon Souray has scored. Even though Souray is known for his hard slap shot, this like his last goal was not a slap shot. His last goal was a backhander. this time it was a nice wrist shot. The Oilers currently lead 2-0. Another personwho has had a huge impact on the lead, is their goalie Deslauriers. He has made some brilliant saves. The other goal was by Ales Hemsky. It was also his 5th. He pulled on some nice moves and came up with a goal. He also assisted on Souray's goal. With that, ales Hemsky's point streak is extended to 6 games.

What About Strudwick?

The New York Rangers have found excellent goaltending and lots of scoring as they lead the Eastern Confrence with the Montreal Canadiens trailing not far behind. What's different about the actual physical team? Jason Strudwick was traded away to the Edmonton Oilers. Is it Strudwick leaving the reason the Rangers are doing so good? Or is it the rest of the team is just playing better? In my opinion, it is mostly the rest of the team's new performance. yes, it maybe Strudwick a bit. But I think it's mostly the rest of the team.

Shoots and Scores

Sheldon Souray netted his 4th of the season last game. Traded to the Oilers by the Montreal Canadiens, the defenceman Souray is known for his hard slapshot. But it is not his hard slapshot that got him his 4th goal of the season. Souray came out of the penalty box to a pass. That created a break away where Souray backhanded the puck top glove side.

NHL's new Tough Guy

The NHL has a new tough guy. 26 year old Steven MacIntyre was picked up off the Waiver Wire by the Edmonton Oilers. MacIntyre is 6 foot 5 and 260 pounds. MacIntyre uses his long arms to keep his opponet at a far enough length in a fight that they can barely reach him! What a smart stragety! MacIntyre prides himself in being a tough guy. He spends very little time on the ice but when he is on the ice his purpose is clear. Example: Jim Vandimeir of the Calgary Flames challenges Marc Pouliout of the Edmonton Oilers to a fight. Vandimeir starts absolutely pounding on Pouliout so Oilers Head coach Craig MacTavish sends MacIntyre out. MacIntyre has Vandimeir down on the ice, nose broken and bleeding, with a single punch

Oilers Bounce!

Steve Tambellini Oilers New GM!

Seve Tambellini has just been announced the Oilers new GM! Kevin Lowe was promoted to President of Hockey Organizations. Can the new guy get the Oilers to the playoffs? Will he destroy the Oilers young guns that Kevin Lowe has spent years building? Thought or Comments?

Edmonton Oilers?

The Edmonton Oilers have high expectations for next year but can all those young guys pull it off? And Kevin Lowe is now the Oilers new President of Hockey Organizations. Can this new guy win the Oilers the Cup? Lowe has made quite a few changes to the Oilers but can the new GM work with what Lowe gave him? Will the oilers make the playoffs? Will Tom Gilbert be the new Paul coffey? How will the rest of the young ones turn out? Thoughts or Comments on the subject? What about the Detroit Red Wings? Marian Hossa, Pavel Datsyuk, Nickolas Lidstrom, Henrik Zetterberg, and Dominak Hasek? How long can they keep them all? How long until how much they want pushes Detroit over te salary cap? Will Detroit be unstoppable? Thoughts or Comments on this subject? Will Pittsburgh's young stars fall on such a dissapointment as losing in the cup finals? Malkin and Crosby are still young so can they handle loosing in the cup finals? Will they be up to their normal talent in 08-09? Will it have just pushed their determination to the limit? Please leave your thought or commment!

Sigining!

The Edmonton Oilers sign Jason Strudwick to a 1 year contract. The Red Wings signed Marian Hossa to a 1 year 7.5 Million dollar contract after the Oilers had offered him 90 Million for 10 years. The Canucks sign Demitra and Davison. The unristricted free agent Jason Smith signed with the New Jersey Devils. The Florida Panthers signed Gregory Campbell to 2 years. The Edmonton Oilers have been making changes to their team as they sign Gilbert Brule, Erik Cole, and Lubomir Visnovsky. Remember to be active on this blog for advertising space.

Edmonton Oilers

This is going to sound strange but i think the Oilers should stay exactly the same. The Oilers have tons of young people and Lowe wasted too much to throw it away. Sam Gagner at the age 18 got 49 points nad other players did well too like Cogliano, Nilsson, Gilbert, Glencross, Brodziak, Stortini, Grebeshkov, and Smid. Leave a comment on your thoughts if your an Oilers fan!

Carolina Hurricane

Carolina needs a good goaltending and defence i think simply. Ward fell apart after he won the Stanly Cup and MVP. Leave a comment if your a Hurricane fan!

Nashville Predators

The Predators aren't bad but they really need to work on their team. I really liked Vokoun in net but he got traded. I think they might need more tough guys. Darcy Hordichuk is like the only tough guy. They're really gonna have to work on their team for next year though. Leave a comment if your a Predators fan!

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Boston Bruins

Bost i think needs mostly consistant goaltending i think. Leave a comment if you are a Bruins fan! Fact: Bost Pizza was named Boston because the owner liked the Bruins.

Calgary Flames

The Flames i think will be good for the next couple of years but so far they haven't much of a future. Dion Phaneuf (who has a very bright future) is their only big young guy. Leave a comment if your a Flames fan!

Ottawa Senators

I completly disagree with how the Sens are trying to win. I say stop wasting money on people like Spezza, Alfreddsen, and Heatly who aren' t doing much and start putting it to use! I think they need consistant players. Leave a comment if your a Senators fan!

Colorado Avalanche

I think Colorado should stay as they are because Theodore's back on top of his game and Sakic, Smyth, and other players are doing good. Leave a comment if your an Avalanche fan!

Philadelphia Flyers

They did very good but they kinda fell apart a little after the start of the season. I think they need better goaltending. Leave a comment if your a Flyers fan! Fact:the name Flyers came from a 9-year old boy's mail.

Dallas Stars

With Dallas i'm pretty confused. They have Turco in net (who i am very confident in) and Modano on offence and some good defense. I thought Dallas would do better. I'm not sure what adjustments they should make to Dallas. Leave a comment if your a Stars fan.

New York Rangers

New York did very well at the end of the year and i think they are very good. I'm sorry but i don't trust Lundqvist in net. With Jagr and Shanan i don't think their regular players are a problem. I just don't trust their net minder. Leave a comment if your a Rangers fan!

Saturday, April 12, 2008

Anaheim Ducks

I think the ducks are really good but i wouldn't rely too much on Selanee. He could retire anytime so the Ducks need to prepare for the future. Leave a comment if your a Ducks fan.

New Jersey Devils

The Devils i think need more offence. They did do great but they likely could improve. What do you think? Leave a comment if your a Devils fan.

Monday, April 7, 2008

Minnesota Wild

The Wild i think need consistant goaltending. Their entire division struggled this year. The Wild came out on top of their division with 98 points. Their division didn't struggle that much compared to Washington and Carolina's division. Good luck to you if you're a Wild fan and make sure you leave a comment.

Sunday, April 6, 2008

Washington Capitals

The Caps need help on D and goaltending. With Ovechkin offence isn't a problem. What do you think? Leave a comment on your thoughts.

Sanjose Sharks

The Sharks did very well and it's easy to say what they need to improve on. With Nabokov in net that's not a problem. With Joe Thorton offence isn't either. That leaves defence. I think they need to improve their defence. Leave a comment on what you think.

Montreal Canadiens

The Habs did extremly well but i don't see why. They don't really have an all star goal tender but they had some players that had good scoring years. Although losing Sheldon Souray effected them i think. Leave a comment on your thoughts.

Saturday, April 5, 2008

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings were the best team in the NHL but i think they need consistant goaltending. Hasek is way too risky for my liking. Like during the 3rd playoff game in the 2005-2006 season against the Edmonton Oilers, the puck rolled to about his blueline and Fernando Pisani raced Dominak Hasek from opposite sides for the puck. Hasek won but shot it right into Pisasni's chest he ended up skating backwards and shooting the puck into the empty net. He also lies down too much i think. What do you think the Red Wings should improve on? Leave a comment.

Pittsburg Penguins

The Pittsburg Penguins did extremly well this year but i think they're biggest problem is defence. What do you think the Pittsburg Penguins should improve on for next year?

Hey!

I have decided to make a poston every NHL team so keep watching for posts about your NHL team!

Jonathan Roy's apologie

Although Jonathan Roy did skate to the other end of the rink to fight Bobby Nadeau Jonathan apologized to the players and fans. What you saw out there wasn't me, says Jonathan.

Jonathan and Patrick Roy gone mad!

Jonathan Roy (who is the son of Patrick Roy) skated down to the other end of the rink and fought Bobby Nadeau. I thought if i just stayed in my net nothing would happen, says Bobby. Even though Bobby Nadeau didn't actually fight it's still considered a fight. Jonathan Roy was suspended. His father (who was coach of the team) was also suspended for encouraging his son to fight. That wasn't the only fight that involved Jonathan Roy. Jonathan also fought the referee and a player. His suspension was 7 games and a 500$ fine. Patrick Roy's suspension was 5 games. To your right is a video of the fight and a poll on the subject.

Interveiw with president of Spruce Grove Saints

An interveiw with the president of the Spruce Grove Saints, Darren Myshak: Q:Are you satisfied with your team's performance so far this year? A:The team is in it's rebuilding phase so there is a huge learning curve this year. We may have a tough time getting to the finals this year but i think next yesr is our year. In jr A we don't just measure sucess on wins and loses. We provide jr hockey so young men like yourselves have the oppurtunity to get a scholarship from american colleges. They can play high level hockey for 4 more years, get a free university education of their choice, and a great life experience. At the end of the year when we know how many of our players had that oppurtunity to receive such a privelage that's when we determine if the year was succesful or not. Q:What team has been your hardest team to beat so far this year? A:With out a doubt Grand Prarie has been our toughest team this year. We are 0 wins and 6 loses against them in the regular season this year. Q:Who has been your biggest player contributor this year? A:Shane Lemans was our top scorer in the regular season but as far as the biggest contributor I think would be our captain Jordan Kary. He's the leader on and off the ice. Q: Do you give more credit to your players or coach for your team’s success this year? A: The coach looks for players a year in advance. He puts the team together and gives them the guidance to become better individual players and team players. saying that it is still the players that are on the ice taking the hits and making the plays. So you see that's the beautiful thing about are game it teaches total team work from the management to the coaches right down to the players. To answer your question the credit goes to everyone. Q:Where does your team enjoy playing the most? A: Every player likes to play at home but as far as away rinks go I would like to think the players would like to play in the newer bigger rinks in Grande Prairie, Ft. Mac & Camrose. Hope you enjoyed the interveiw!
